Tennis Techniques - Introduction

‘I’m a regular user of the PTS website and have found the tactical and technical information to be really beneficial’
Paul Fisher, former LTA Young Coach of the Year

As coaches we must become experts in analysing and developing technically sound tennis players. This will allow each player the chance to reach their full playing potential by allowing him or her to play with their own specific, yet flexible game style, as well as reducing the risk of injury.

We recommend that technique is analysed in time order . In other words, coaches should study each shot from its start to its finish - by using the following check points throughout the stroke:

GROUNDSTROKES AND VOLLEYS

  • 1 Ready position
  • 2 Read the ball
  • 3 React and move
  • 4 Set-up
  • 5 Contact point
  • 6 Racket action

 serveSERVE

  • 1 Set-up
  • 2 Build
  • 3 Throwing position
  • 4 Throw and contact point
